Refresh with the Online Skills Center
The American Red Cross has an amazing interactive skills refresher course online. With many different scenarios, these courses will help you refresh and prepare for a busy (and hopefully hazard free) summer. With over 10 years of experience teaching swim lessons and lifeguarding at community pools I never expected to use my skills for the first time at a family gathering. I am glad I was prepared.

Picture of the Day: Twinsies
This is what happens when you go to Target for glitter glue and milk after gymnastics class with two adorable three-year-olds! I am so weak at Target, especially when the girlies use their sweetest manners. ("Look at this beautiful shirt, Jessica!") We could have easily come home with puppies, had those been for sale.

Picture of the Day: Umbrella Walk
With the park all soggy from on-again off-again rain showers we needed a busy activity to get the wiggles out. We saw a few bugs, lots of flowers and had a great time with a few rounds of "A marching/walking/skipping/hopping/creaping we will go!" (To the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)
Earth Day (Week)
We used water and food coloring to make our own coffee-filter earth. Once they were dry we added a heart hands pledge. We talked about different ways to help keep the planet healthy: recycling, riding bikes, being nice to animals, keeping flowers in the ground for bees, using trash cans, saving water, etc. The children picked a favorite way and wrote it on their hands.
Hand print continents were layered on top of a starry background. (I lost the final draft picture. The children used q-tips to make stars on the black construction paper.)
We used repurposed toilet paper rolls for this art project. I love anything that keeps the children's hand a little less paint-covered. They love anything that involves paint covering.
The children were so SO proud of their forests! They asked to have photos taken. I love that! I used old catalogs to cut out tree tops and trunks on any page green or brown. They picked, assembled and glued their trees together.

Popcorn Popping
Thanks to Grandma Esther for donating her old air popping machine. The kids had fun with it. I love Ms. H's face as she sees the popcorn start to fill up the top. I think she was worried the whole house would overflow!
So yummy with a little cinnamon, sugar, salt and melted butter.
