The Lunch Lady on Classroom Birthday Treats

With all the recent talk about "pink slime" I came across this website buried in an article and found a few other interesting articles including this one about treats at school for birthdays. I admit to a cringe when E's 2nd grade newsletter comes home with all of the month's birthdays. It usually means an enormous, hydrogenated, food-colored, sugar ball is passed out to each of his classmates.

I try to balance my appreciation for organic, homemade meals with sweet indulgences and like where this Lunch Lady is coming from.

Picture of the Day: Wheat Grinder

It has been a while since we've had the grain grinder out. The children love it; they fight over who has had a turn and how long a turn should be. I think I should get a few more!

"What are we making??" They wonder. When they make the connection between the flour box and baking they all shout out their favorites, "pancakes?!" "muffins??" "cookies???"

They really did earn their pancakes for breakfast tomorrow. Good little workers!

Picture of the Day: All Aboard!

All aboard the acorn train. Thankfully I suggested this "acorn train for the squirrels"- otherwise the children would have been filling every pocket they could find full of these things.
